Can you make puppies cuter?

For national adopt-a-dog weekend through Pets-mart, students in Mrs. Sears's flyer time family made bandannas for the adoptable dogs that were looking for their forever homes. Bandannas were given to local rescue shelters for their dogs. Students also had the opportunity to volunteer at local Pets-mart locations to help with adoptions. Way to go guys!

Ethics Anyone?

During last month, our flyer time families participated in an online course produced by the BBB on ethics. This video series is like a "choose your own adventure" book. Students are faced with a problem, they make a decision on what they should do, then a different video plays depending on their response. One example video presented to the group was students who were cheating on a test with cell phones. Out students had to decide how to respond. Going through these videos made everyone think about the consequences of their actions.  For more info, go the the BBB website.

Marshall the Miracle Dog

Today we had a visit from a very special dog and his owner.  Marshall the Miracle Dog came to Sperreng to spread his message of empathy and to encourage students to keep holding on.  Cindi Willenbrock, a former Lindbergh student, adopted Marshall after a raid on an animal horder's property.  He was saved along with more than 60 dogs, but Marshall had some severe injuries.  He had been attacked by some of the other dogs, and as a result, he lost his front leg and has a deep scar on his face.  Marshall was not expected to survive, but he made it through surgery and was adopted by Cindi.  Now Marshall is a certified therapy dog, and he travels around the country inspiring students to never give up.  Marshall's story has been made into a book and will be made into a movie soon.  You can find out more about Marshall and Cindi on their website: http://marshallthemiracledog.com

Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

Today in Flyer Time, Mrs. Sears's class focused on teamwork and strategy.  The object was to work together to get a ball to roll down a human-held ramp system 15 feet and fall into a cup.  If the ball touched you or fell, the group had to start over.  As the groups went through the process, they learned that if you overlapped the ramp there was less of a chance of the ball falling.  This week's ball was foil, lightweight and about an inch in diameter.  Next week the task gets harder with a marble; smaller and heavier, students will have a harder time controlling its roll, so some more strategy will be necessary!  Good job today and good luck next week.

Show Your Sperreng Spirit

Flyer time families will work in teams this month to create a door design that is unique and represents who they are.  The theme for this activity is "there's snow place like Sperreng."  What a fitting theme for a month that has seen more than its fair share of snow! Students are encouraged to work with their families to get creative and design a cover for their flyer time teacher's door.  Doors are currently a work in progress. Check back in a few weeks for pictures of final designs!
Mr. Ratliff's flyer time has the beginnings of a snowman - We think:)
Ms. McCarthy's flyer time looks to be creating snowflakes as unique as each student.
Mr. Lewis's flyer time class is dreaming of Sochi, or they are under a lot of stress.
Ms. Rathjen's flyer time is creating blizzard conditions for their snowman.
Mr. Scheidenhelm's room is playing reindeer games.
Mrs. Fuch's flyer time has the "Stay-puff" marshmallow snowman. Who you gonna call? (this is from the movie Ghost-busters if you are not a child of the 80s)
Mr. Finch's flyer time looks like they are going for an Olympic theme...or making a necklace.
